Description | Upon the petition by road contractors The petitioner are those contractors undertaking the task of improving the macadams extending from the municipal restaurant to Birke-i Hücce, from Damascus Gate to the government office and Lion's Gate, from Jaffa Gate to the Armenian monastery, from the Jaffa road to the German Hospital with branches and to the Aştiler Madrasah, and from the French Hospital to the Hasan Bey’s Pavilion. It has been stipulated in the contract certificates that the making of the said roads be completed and submitted before the arrival of His Highness the Emperor, to Jerusalem. Nevertheless, they did not meet their commitments; hence, towards the end of September, they were banished from the work in question by the Notary Public. Since they have not heretofore met their commitments, an inspection has been made on the said roads by council members and the engineer for the purpose of searching for and making up deficiencies, and it has been understood that there are some deficiencies in terms of the commitment requirements. It is alleged by the petitioners that there are no such deficiencies; hence, taking due action in respect thereof to be dealt with later, it is up to your honorable opinion to decide on inspecting the said roads by the Public Works’ Chief Engineer, the Railroad commissary and the Municipal Engineer so as to determine whether there is any deficiency and to declare the necessary amount of expenditures if there is any, and on applying to the Office of the Chief Engineer of Public Works and having a demand from Jaffa by the Railroad commissariat. The 2nd of Kânûn Thânî (1)314 (14th of January 1899). [1 signature] |
