Description | Except for Şükrü Nime (?), the Municipal Hospital Doctor, and Kostandi Halebî Effendi, the Gaza Municipal Doctor, there is no one in Jerusalem with a certificate from Beirut American and Jesuit schools. The salary of the Gaza Municipal Doctor is 400 piasters, the hospital doctor’s salary 800 piasters, and the salary of Foti Effendi, the Jerusalem Municipal Doctor with a certificate from Athens (?) school, is 1,000 piasters. The salary of Toder Tadres Effendi, the Jaffa Municipal Doctor with a certificate from the said school, is 600 piasters; however, due to the low level of income of our council’s incomes, some delays occur in the payment of 800 piasters assigned for the monthly salary of the office of Municipal Hospital. As our council’s expenses have currently increased owing to the known trip, its complete payment will later become much more difficult. It has thus been understood that it would be appropriate to economize a monthly sum of 600 piasters from the said salary; and it would also be appropriate to assign the remaining sum of 200 piasters, as from July of this year, to the Municipal Doctor Foti Effendi, a master expert who has served over a year at the deputy office of the hospital, in exchange for the carriage fee due to the distance of the Municipal Hospital’s station, and thus to entrust the administration of the office of hospital to him. In addition, it has also been understood that it would be better and more appropriate if Şükrü Effendi leaves his post immediately. Foti Effendi has been offered the job, and he has accepted it. Due to the low-level of income of the Gaza Municipality, it is hard to take the salary of its doctor to its statutory limit. Therefore, if it is possible to dispatch a doctor at the specified amount of salary, it would be appropriate to appoint and send someone; if not, it would be possible here to appoint a doctor with a certificate from the School of Athens, authenticated by the Imperial School of Medicine. The arranged biographic documents of the Jaffa Municipal Doctor Toder Tadres Effendi and Foti Effendi are hereby sent. Hence, the matter of explaining and notifying the situation is in any case left to your discretion. The 24th of Huzayrân (1)314 (6th of July 1898). |
