Description | There are three collectors in total, two people for collecting the payments assigned to shops in exchange for a part of the cleaning, watchman and lightening expenses, and one person for collecting the payments of houses. The payments of Muslim and Christian shops were temporarily collected by one of the municipal sergeants; but since this sergeant cannot perform the duty in its full scope, delays occur in the collection process. Upon the approval of appointing a special collector for collecting these payments, the said collector post has become vacant. The other two collectors in charge of collecting the payments of Jewish shops and houses have not retired from their offices, but their collecting duties have been suspended for examining their accounting and renewing their surety. However, following the examination of their accounting, the council committee has given each of them a bill indicating their acquittal and has renewed their surety. Since it has been understood that the person named Abram el-Basravî, the collector appointed last year for collecting the payments of the said houses, is indeed a subject of the Spanish State, a decision has been taken to remove him from this post. However, as necessary actions are being taken after his submittal of a petition to renounce Spanish nationality to become a subject of the Ottoman state, no other person has been appointed instead. The petitioner was proposed to be appointed as the collector of the payments to be made by Muslim and Christian shops, a vacant post temporarily administered by the said sergeant, but he declined.
