Description

Upon the letter, dated 4 September 1901 and numbered 41, presented by the Greek Patriarchate, regarding the granting of a license for the construction of two rooms in the Aya Katrina Monastery
The command by the Grand Vizierate dated 30 March 1298 stipulates that such places as church, school, hospital and cemetery be repaired in accordance with their original form and no new place installed instead of them; but that when a reconstruction is required, an imperial decree be issued. The said Aya Katrina Monastery is old and it has been understood as a result of inspection that the two rooms requested for license cannot be constructed on the third floor of the monastery. Therefore, it has recently been demanded that a license be given for the construction of some buildings in addition to the Latin monastery in the village of Ayn Kerim. Upon the correspondence written by our council for delivering an opinion about this demand, the decision given by the Sanjak Administrative Council on 20 May 1895 did not consider it necessary to ask for permission as regards this matter as the said buildings are situated within the monastery located in the village and it was declared that a license must be given for their construction. Hence, it is appropriate to relegate the matter to the Sanjak Administrative Council in order to decide in comparison with this issue whether it would be necessary to grant a license for the construction of the said two rooms. The 28th of Agustos (1)317 (9th of September 1901).
