Description

In accordance with the requests presented by the contractors for repair and improvement of the roads in and outside of Old City, an inspection has been done by the municipal engineer and the commissioner of the railway train on the road[s] contracted by 'Isâ al-Qassîs, Sam'ân al-Zanânîrî, Hannâ 'Ilyâs al-Zanânîrî and 'Atallah Sulaymân al-Skâfî; namely the road leading from the outset of Shu'ab al-Ramthâwî Shihâb to outside of Damascus Gate next to the headquarters of the glorified government, [the road] leading from the Austrian Hospital to outside of Lion’s Gate, [the road] leading from Fast Hotel belonging to the municipality to Hajja pool, the road leading from the French Hospital to the house of Hasan Bik, the road leading from Jaffa road to the road of 'Ukâshah and the road leading from Jaffa road to Schneller School. And, it has been found from the presented inspection dated on the 6th of Shubât (1)314, that it is urgent to complete certain repairs which are to be subtracted from the recurrent prices of the contracting as much as incomplete amounts of pebbles, dust and others in accordance with the conditions written in the records of contracting.
Previously, an inspection was done by one of us the respectable Qîta Effendi, the respectable Na'ûmî Effendi and the [municipal] engineer on the road contracted to Ilyâs Abû Slîh, namely the road leading from Jaffa Gate to the municipal Hospital. It has been found according to the [above] inspection dated on the 30th of Kanûn Awwal (1)314, that is urgent to do some repairs. Since the directions were repeatedly and uselessly announced to the mentioned contactors from the part of municipality presidency and with the knowledge of the contract's scribe, it has been decided by the council to nominate one of us the respectable al-Hâj Bakr Effendi, the respectable Na'ûmi Effendî and the [municipal] engineer to complete what is needed by proxy on the account of the contractors. In order for this to be approved, this decision was taken on the 31st of Mârt (1)315 (12th of April 1899).
