Description | According to the announcement of the court of first instance of Jerusalem dated on the 29th of Rabi’ awal (1)315 and the 15th of Agustus (1)313 under the number 34, the accused, al khawâja Jûrjî Batrîdi, guarantor of Jûrjî Ghîtnâki, the contractor for the construction of the road leading from Jerusalem to Jaffa, has to pay the amount of five hundred French lira to the elders’ council’s treasury along with the orderly expenses amounting to 1362 qirsh and one quarter. It has been decided (?) (sâr taklîf) to pay this with the guarantor’s payment (ujrat al wakâla) to Jûrjî Effendi Jawhariyya. The rifatlu Bâqi Effendi Barakât Al Alâwi was present (hadr) (?) and said that he is ready to pay 300 French liras cash (bi wudj al naqd) on behalf of the registered (contractor) Jûrjî Effendi. And the remaining amount of 200 French liras will be paid after one year, and a note of promise (kûmbîyala) will be written on the name of ‘Abdulmuhsen Effendi Al Dâwûdi. And while considering (?) this issue, it was found that if it was accepted in this way, the property of the mentioned person would first have to be put up for public auction, and this would take a long time, therefore it was decided to accept an exception for the amount of 300 liras to be taken from the legal taxes and rental income as described, and to take the note of promise for 200 liras from ‘Abdulmuhsen Effendi Al Dâwûdi after one year. In order to procede, this decision was taken on the 14th of Mayis (1)314 (26th of May 1898). [8 signatures] |
