Description | Upon the petition presented by Hadji Reşid Naşâşibi Effendi on 14 January 1909, regarding the box adjacent to the state land in the village of Lifta and located in the land known as Karnet Acil (?) This petition has been thoroughly examined by our council. A few wooden boxes were constructed on the land located in line with the said Jaffa-Jerusalem Street, the purpose of which was to provide residence for one to two cavalier Gendarme soldiers in charge of protecting passersby due to the previous lack of security along the way from here to Jaffa. Following the establishment of security, a decision was taken to avoid occupying this place with gendarmes, and the place became dilapidated with each passing day and most of it actually collapsed. Under the mutasarrifate of Mr. Reşid, two wooden watch boxes were built on the Bethlehem road, and under the Ekrem Bey’s period of office, following the attacks against foreign post offices, a new wooden watch box was constructed at the said location in Ramla, thanks to the relief collected from the people by a special committee, increasing the total number of boxes to three. The run-down and deserted box located on the said Jaffa street mentioned in this petition was erstwhile constructed within this framework and it does not have any aspect to do with the military. The 6th of Kânûn Thânî (1)324 (19th of January 1909). |
