Description | According to the telegram presented by the Ministry of Interior on the 21st of Agustos (1)314, which stipulates that Jaffa Gate should be opened and the trench should be evacuated to turn it into a road and build shops on the part that is not needed by the road. The decision has been taken in the following manner: we recommend that the gate should be opened from the east to the west and demolish the wall between the interior and exterior trenches. Dirt should be dumped into the trench to fill it up and temporary walls should be built inside and outside the trench. A sum that ranges between 500 and 1000 French liras should be borrowed for this operation, in addition to paying refunds to shop owners and pay the price of warehouses and land that belongs to the Ministry of Finance and calculate this money from the expenses of establishing shops. Money will be borrowed because there is not enough cash as a result of the expenses paid this year on roads and other matters. In order to obtain approval, it has been decided to appoint one of us, the respectable Husayn Effendi, the respectable Yâsîn Effendi Qataniyya, the respectable Francis Effendi and the respectable engineer Ibrâhîm Effendi to supervise the operations. In order to obtain approval, this decision was taken on the 25th of Agustos (1)314 (6th of September 1898). [8 signatures] |
