Description The municipality’s hotel has been leased from the start of Muharram (1)335 hijrî until Thu al-Hijja (1)335 hijrî to Marco Qâmints for a sum of 20 000 piasters. Of this sum 2 500 piasters should be given in advance, and the rest of the sum, 17500 piasters should be paid in four installments, as clarified in the contract which was signed by the tenant. The tenant failed to pay the remainder of the deposit by the beginning of Rabî’ al Thânî (1)335, neither did he pay the first installment as stipulated in the contract. Therefore, the council has decided to break the contract in question, according to paragraph two of article three of the public conditions listed in the contract. The tenant, Marco, was told through the local governmnet to vacate the hotel.
The administration of the telegraph and post contacted the municipal department about renting the mentioned hotel for three years and eight months, starting from the beginning of Mâyîs until Kânûn Awwal (1)336. The value of the lease is 20 000 piasters a year. The total value of the rent for three years and eight months stands at 73 333 piasters and 16 para, to be paid in four installments. The first stands at 13 333 piasters and 8 para to be paid in advance; the second installment which stands at 20 000 piasters should be paid at the beginning of Kânûn Thânî (1)334; the third installment 20 000 piasters to be paid at the beginning of Kânûn Thânî (1)335, and the fourth which is 20 000 piasters to be paid in Kânûn Thânî (1)336. All benefits from the building will be given to the tenant as agreed with council’s commission. Since the building is affiliated with municipality’s treasury, the council has decided to lease the mentioned hotel to the telegraph and postal administration for the stated sum and for a period of three years and eight months, on condition that the tenant should not alter any of the rented property’s bulding without the approval of the council. In order for the tenant to obtain the permission of the governorate the contract has been written in this manner. This decision was issued on the 22nd of Nîsân (1)333 (22nd of April 1917).
