Description | Return in favour of Moustapha Saïd Bey. His arrival in Beirut. Announcement of his forthcoming return to Jerusalem and his relocation to his duties as general farmer. Murder of the governor of Jaffa and the governor of Lüd, three leagues away from Jerusalem, in the mountains of Abugosh and on the road to Jaffa. The number of murders is increasing at a frightening rate. Armed hordes close the city and intercept the roads. Post-Sriptum. The Pasha comes to tell me that he can in no way guarantee me safety, not even life. Unspeakable conduct of the British consul. (PP. 53-57b) |
