Description | None of the reparation measures granted by the Sublime Porte has so far been executed in Jerusalem. The effect it was expected to have destroyed by this unspeakable atermoim. Public opinion has reacted negatively. On a formal order from the Gate to the Pasha, the reinstallation and constant display of national colors on the consular hotel is a simple and easy act. Our faithful friend the Nakib al Eschraf or Chief of the Grand Mandé in Saint-Jean-d'Acre by Essad pacha, - imprisoned - indicted and threatened with exemplary punishment upon the arrival of the new Pasha for having told the truth about the events that took place in Jerusalem on 29 July last. An attachment. Copy of a letter written by the French consular agent in Caïffa[Haifa] - Victor Bernard - to the French consul in Jerusalem about Nakib's situation. (pp. 75-84) |
