Description | The British Ambassador in Constantinople (Sir Layard) has just left Palestine for Syria. His stay in Jerusalem. He explained to the consular corps that the purpose of his trip was by no means political: archaeology offered him a clear path in which he did not fail to embark. The fact alone of the trip to Palestine, and especially Syria, of the British ambassador accomplished in tormented political times such as those that Europe is going through at the moment, leaves the field open to all conjectures, and they have not failed to occur.
