Description | Replacement in the presence of the officers of the consulate, by the governor of Palestine, of the fourteen small nails recently removed, silver nails fixing the fourteen points of the rays of the Silver Star placed under the protectorate of France, under the altar of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Praise and blame the governor for his attitude towards the protective power of the Emperor's consulate. Instant request for the embassy to obtain clear and precise instructions from his government, for the governor to clearly trace his line of conduct in his relations with the consul, agent of the protective power of the non-Indigenous Latin religious establishments in Palestine. Prayer of obtaining an order from his government enjoining the governor to consent to the payment by the consul of France, in the name of the protective government and as a gift of imperial piety, of the price of the nails of the Star and to the delivery, by the goldsmith, to the consul of the receipt stating the reasons for this payment. Reasons of public peace and protection of the rights of the protectorate that militate in favour of this very minimal gift from the Emperor,[illegible] the protective power at the sanctuary of the Nativity. P.S. Arrival in Jerusalem of Mr. Boris Mansouroff. (PP. 193-195) |
