Description | Instant prayer for instructions from his government for Kurchid Pasha. Obstacles put to the protectorate of France by the direct negotiations of the governor, and, without the Consulate's knowledge, with our official proteges. Misguided vizirielle letters (real or alleged) in relation to completed cases, among others concerning the neutrality of the public square of Bethlehem and the replacement of the Nativity Star, eleven years ago, by an ad hoc commissioner in the presence of the French consul, Mr. Botta. The Emperor's consulate has no authentic copies of these vizirielle letters. (PP. 196-198) |
