Description | Only the first 10 pages are written. (p. 2) Procopios Patriarch of Jerusalem and All Palestine by the grace of God. Great and terrible tumult that broke out in the year 1872 and 1873 nearly rocked of its very foundations the most holy Apostolic and Patriarchal throne of Jerusalem, threatening with destruction and with dissolution the Holy Hagiotaphite Brotherhood constituted centuries ago in the Holy Land. Apart from the external attempts, apart from the harm inflicted in a vengeful spirit on the holy interests and revenues of the Holy Sepulchre, the Hagiotaphite Brotherhood went through a great struggle, striving against the Orthodox crew in Palestine that revolted jointly and claimed rights and demands upon the holy tabernacles in the Holy Land that the Hagiotaphite Brotherhood committed itself to guard. And, eternal grace and gratitude to God, as the Throne of Jerusalem found generous protection and justice by the Sublime and mighty Ottoman Government and through the common sympathy and moral assistance of our congeners, the ancient privileges of this patriarchal throne of ours were maintained unaltered. Since this shock and the following change in the state of things had prescribed to us the need to apply severe measures in the affairs of our Holy Community, for this reason we considered necessary to show special care on the finances of our Holy Community setting a more orderly and prudent course than the existing one. Hence, we approved through a Synod the modification of the finance system in force up to now and the inaugurations a new according to the following articles, which promise to be useful in many ways for the finances of the Holy Community, as they concern the assembly and systematization of all the small and great revenues and expenses of the Holy Sepulchre from all sources in oneCentral Treasury (something that did not exist up to now). This being the purpose of common interest prescribed by the need and the change of our affairs, we order and incite all our brothers now and in the future to follow the rules of the present code with caution and precision from now on. And the great God may diffuse from his infinite mercy plentiful graces to this meager treasury, so that it suffices to our multiple needs on the one hand for the decency and the support of the holy pilgrimage sites, and on the other for the benefit of all the needy pious and Orthodox Christians. Made in the Holy City of Jerusalem in A.D. 1873 (Follow the articles of the treasury Regulation). |
