Title | Holy Codex given to the saint exarch the holy protosyncellus of the Holy Sepulchre, Sir Matthaeus, sent to the provinces of Samos, Cremna, New Ephesus, Kalymnos and Leros, in which can be registered the names of the most preferred devouts of every city and parish and village of the said provinces. Likewise, the money collected from every soul of men, women and children of the lower classes per kurus. Once registered, they should be verified by the signatures of the exarch himself and of the high priest or the Commissioner of every place. Also (they should be verified) from the commissioners of the Holy Sepulchre, to whom the collected money should be given in order to pass safely here according to the church letters. Afterwards, this holy codex shall be sent to the Holy City of Jerusalem for a perpetual commemoration of the registered names in all saint pilgrimages. Archival history | Despite its long administrative tradition, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem created a distinct archival service only in the early twentieth century and placed it under the authority of the archigrammateas. The Historical and Paleographic Archive of the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation and its director, Agamemnon Tselikas accomplished the classification of the archives from 1988 to 1991 and their catalog was published in Greek in 1992. |
